Hello guys !!!
I’m back after being kinda busy, I was back in France at home dealing with stuff and then I had my trip to South East Asia, Singapore to see my friend that I know from High school. Still haven’t done a post about Madrid yet because I will need time which I don’t have now 😦 .
So basically the plan was to go to Singapore for few days, then go to Langkawi for 6 days and go back to Singapore. I just had time to do my post about Langkawi. And after I will do the one about Singapore.
Anyway, I booked my flight to go to visit my friend in May, Air France 🙂 , to go to Singapore on June 10th until June 23rd. My friend lives in Singapore since 4 years and she asked me to come visit her since years. I never had the time and the money basically. But since I’m working this summer, I could and I did 🙂 .
We plan to go to Langkawi to explore new places because she had already visited quite few islands in South East Asia ( SEA ).
- What is Langkawi ?
Langkawi, officially known as Langkawi the Jewel of Kedah, is an archipelago of 104 islands in the Andaman Sea, some 30km off the mainland coast of northwestern Malaysia. The islands are a part of the state of Kedah, Malaysia, which is adjacent to the Thai border. Langkawi is quite a known island in Asia but not so much in Europe. It is not a big island but it’s not small either. It’s known for its beaches and its natural landscape. Tourism is expending years by years, but you can see that tourists are mainly asiatic tourists, they are few European styled tourists.
We booked a flight from Singapore which costed about 90€, there are cheaper flight if you fly from Kuala Lumpur (Capital of Malaysia). We decided to stay in a Hotel at Cenang, in the south-west of the island (the main touristic place). The money of Malaysia is called Ringgit but it is very weak compare to Euro which means you have a lot of money with few euros 🙂 which is fantastic. You’ll find that everything is cheap once converted in Euro. That’s a great point. For example, you can eat a very good meal for 3-4€, cigarettes for 2-3€. The Hotel, Royal Agate, was also quite cheap and very good, near the beach with a rooftop where you can breakfast.
The first day we just hang out at the beach in front of the hotel, Pantai Cenang. The weather was not that great but even tho it was very warm, if you know SEA you know that it’s always hot. The beach is quite nice, but what impressed me a lot is that the sea is very warm too, it’s almost not even refreshing ahah.
We decided to rent a motorbike to explore the island as we want. Even if you don’t have the driving licence for if you insist you can rent a motorbike, I don’t have the driving licence but I know how to drive it, we rent it anyway because we didn’t want to get stuck in the hotel area. The renting is very cheap and the gas is even cheaper !!
⇒ We’ve seen pictures of Langkawi before going and we planned almost everything we wanted to see. First was the “Black sand beach” located in the north of the island. We went there by motorbike, roads are not that great but if you are careful it’s ok, but really be careful of traffic because it’s kind of a mess.
⇒ After that we decided to come back to the hotel by the east coast of the island, we reached the most north point of the island and then the road to Kuah. We saw a lot of things, temples, Kuah (the main city of Langkawi), monkeys, etc.
On our way to Kuah we find this beautiful temple, couldn’t resist taking pictures 🙂
We also find a Buddhist temple that I already looked up on internet.
⇒ We did the cable car to go up to see the Skybridge, Langkawi Sky Bridge is a 125-metre curved pedestrian cable-stayed bridge completed in 2005. The bridge deck is located 660 metres above sea level at the peak of Gunung Mat Chinchang, the highest point of Langkawi. Up there you have a spectacular view over the island. But this is damn high, I was a bit scared in the cable car and on the bridge.
⇒ On our way to go to see a waterfall we find this stunning beach, like I’ve never seen a beach that beautiful before ❤ but there is a story ahahah In the excitement I jumped in the sea but there was a rock. I riped my right feet on the rock, hopefully I could stop myself when I saw the rock while I was jumping into the water, otherwise I would have hurt myself very bad. My feet was blooding, I could wash it with mineral water bottle, then put something to disinfect the wound. But we went back to the “village” at the cable car to buy plasters. I had to deal with the wounds the rest of the trip, couldn’t walk a lot but didn’t stop me.
⇒ Nearby there was also a place I really wanted to visit. It is call the “Seven Wells” and it’s a waterfall, on the top you can find natural pool in the rock. We reached the top of the waterfall by climbing stairs in the jungle, that was the moment of my life where I sweated the most, like really I never sweat so much, my arms were sweating, it was so hot, and climbing those stairs in the jungle under the heat. But it worths it because you can dip into the fresh water of the river at the top. Amazing place, we also went down the waterfall, stunning, never saw a waterfall that big before so I really liked it.
⇒ We stop on our way back to hotel to admire the beautiful sunset
⇒ The last day that we had the motorbike, we went to Kuah to see the Eagle Square which is a touristic attraction. There is a big statue of an Eagle, the eagle is the symbol of Langkawi.
⇒ Our last day we did the Mangrive tour that we booked 2 days before, it wasn’t expensive but don’t get fooled, they seel it at 100 ringgit at first and low to 70 ringgit which is the standart price. You can even find at 50 ringgit. The tour take place in the north east of the island.
Our final destination was called “White sand beach” no need to explain why 😉
This trip was amazing, never been to a place like this. The beaches are gorgeous, the palms trees, the jungle, etc, it is so exotic. So different from Europe ! I’m so happy we manage to go there, we explored so much in those few days, but we also relax a lot.
Some others photos :
⇒ We ate a lot during this trip, a lot of chinese food and local food (juices, fruit, etc) but it was very cheap and good !!! We enjoy the beach near our hotel, there was a cool bar called Kalut Bar where we hung out a lot, at night also with fire shows.
Langkawi is really a good destination if you wanna enjoy cheap vacation in some island, the most expensive to pay is the flight ticket. I think I paid almost 390€ with flight from Singapore and Hotel for 5 nights, good hotel, plus all the extras, like motorbike, cablecar etc, etc, so really with few money you can enjoy there great vacation.
Stay tuned for my post about Singapore 🙂
