Visit Saint Émilion in One Day
As you’ve certainly read in the title, in this post I’m gonna talk about Saint-Émilion 🙂 If you’re visiting Bordeaux and its area, you MUST visit this little town.
Here is what to expect !
Saint-Émilion is a little medieval town located in the Gironde department in south-western France. Less than 1 hour of road from Bordeaux, It is the perfect getaway from the big city.
Saint Émilion is visited every year by more than a million tourists. It is highly known for its wine and vineyards. But Saint Émilion is not just a famous wine, it is also a beautiful little village with a lot of history.
From the big church built up some rock to the little medieval streets Saint Émilion is definitely unique. You can also find a lot of ruins from the past, like the ruins of an old abbey. You can visit the ruins for free, there is a little bar inside and gift shop at the entrance.
The King Tower
The town itself is made of sandy colored rocks. Standing in the town, the tower of the king is a beautiful point of view over the city (the top of the church too) but unfortunately I didn’t have the time to climb up the tower, it was closed 😦
The town is surrounded by vineyards, I got the chance to stay late and watch the sun sets over them. The light was beautiful and the colors were amazing.
The town is also very charming at night and full of good places to appreciate the great wine and the french cuisine.
I took so much photos and the town is so beautiful. I sharing some other pics with you :
I hope it gives you the desire to visit Saint Émilion ! This town is truly a gem of history and culture.
- The town is old and the streets are made of pavements sometimes, use good shoes to walk comfortably.
- It is not very big so you can do it in one day
- Don’t hesitate to go a little bit outside the city
- If you can, stay until night to watch the beautiful sunset
